Gov’s veto of parts of Ed Reform bill

May 20, 2009

The Gov yesterday vetoed the ‘early learning’ and ‘gifted ed’ sections of the Education Reform bill, HB 2261. I am beyond outraged at her legalistic approach to this issue when all of our work has been to improve the policy structure around Basic Education. This was the wrong move at the wrong time. She is wrong. Dead wrong. She should have communicated during the last TWO years about her concerns in this area before shocking all of us with this veto. This is bad politics, bad policy and inappropriate. If I don’t see a ‘governor’s request’ bill by early fall to fix the logistical issues around her concerns, I’ll be even more upset. She better follow through on this one. It’s just not right.
