The pain of the Lakewood slayings

Like everyone in our community, I am so deeply and profoundly saddened–and enraged–by the vicious murder of four police officers.
There are no words to explain, rationalize, justify or excuse this moral outrage.
My heart goes out to the families of those who lost their lives in this senseless act.
My hope is that we as a state look deeply at our mental health system’s link with the criminal justice infrastructure. My hope is that we use the opportunity of this crisis to embrace a more holistic and systems approach to mental health intervention services. My prayer is that we never feel this awful pain again.
