Hi Reuven,

I appreciate the depth and openness at which you are articulating your thoughts as you represent us.

I am going to ask you to reexamine your position on the tunnel. Yup, that one. All the talk about connecting downtown and the waterfront, making Seattle a great city, etc. etc. is misplaced effort in my opinion.

We are in a state of emergency in supporting the public schools. And now the latest trial balloon for budget reductions I hear is to revisit the Basic Health Plan.

What you are saying, by taking the position you take, is that having a good-looking waterfront is more important than education (both K-12 and colleges) and health. I don't agree and I don't support you on that. If we can't afford to fund the schools and we can't fund the Basic Health Plan, why are we putting money into the tunnel? (Please don't tell me about money already allocated or can't be used from one budgeted purpose to another, we are either in a crisis or not.)

If things are so dire, patch the Viaduct and fund the basic needs of the people of the state. If they aren't so dire, fund education and health first.

I live in Bellevue, not in your district (I did live on Magnolia fifty years ago), but you address worldwide as well as local problems, and I qualify as a citizen of the world. I write regarding your blog quoted in the "RESET 2010" Editorial of the Seattle Times on June 23.

They gave you credit as "One who gets it." I agree that you get it as far as the need for worldwide-impacting economic restructuring goes You go on to our need to "find the courage to build a sound financial model for today's world." Again I agree, but we must also find the courage to restructure the whole lifestyle of humanity, and not just for today's world, but for the FUTURE of the world. To understand what I am talking about, please read at least part of my website. I would appreciate hearing from you.
